DRC government: stop oil and gas in the Congo Forest

Right now the DRC government is hosting a huge climate meeting, ahead of COP27 in Egypt next month.

At the same time they are selling off 27 oil and three gas blocks. Three of the oil blocks are in the Cuvette Centrale peatlands – a carbon bomb containing the equivalent of three years’ worth of global fossil fuel emissions. At least 13 of the blocks overlap protected areas, including Virunga National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. If this goes ahead it will have devastating impacts on the planet and local communities.

Tell the DRC government to end this reckless sell off of oil and gas and invest in renewable energy, creating local jobs and as a solution for populations living in rural areas. Will you tweet them now?
